Summer Reading - Kindle Edition

I had been trying to convince my mom that she needed a Kindle for a while, even offered to get it for her birthday. She turned down all of my offers saying how much she loved "holding a real book". She finally caved when she sat next to someone with the Kindle and got to see it in action. She immediately bought hers, love at first sight, and then said I "Have to have one too before vacation, early birthday present". So I jumped on Amazon before she had finished her sentence and bought my very own.

I had resisted getting one for myself as I didn't want to front the money and I had been doing so well with getting books from the library, but as a gift, I would jump at the chance! So once it showed up I started downloading books for my vacation.
This book was so good. I have seen it everywhere and finally decided to read it. I was immediately drawn into the story, but wouldn't have raved about it until about the last third. Then I could not put it down. It was SO good. My mom was reading it on her Kindle at the same time and was struggling to get through it and I was just cheering her on, Keep going! You'll get to the amazing part soon!!!  I am currently reading the second of the three, The Girl Who Played with Fire.

Next up was The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I can't remember who blogged about this book, but THANK YOU. It was amazing. It was basically a story of a distopian future in North America. The Capital had shut down uprisings by the Districts in the country and wanted to remind them each year who controlled their lives. Each year two teens, a boy and girl, are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. In these games they will face against all of the other Tributes from each district to fight to the death. The winning Tribute brings back food and fortune to their district for the coming year. That is all I will say so I don't ruin anything for you, but go get this book immediately!

Catching Fire is the second book in the series. It picks up right where book one left off and is equally as good. I read this book in one day because I could not put it down. I am eagerly anticipating the release of Mockingjay, the final book of the series, at the end of this summer.

Finally I read Club Dead: A Sookie Stackhouse Novel. I enjoy the series and LOVE the HBO show True Blood which is based on these books. Unfortunately Club Dead is pretty much what this season is based on, so I've ruined a lot of the show's plot for myself. Now I can't decide whether I keep reading or just drop the books so that the show will remain shocking each week. There are tons of differences, but the general storyline is pretty much the same, so I always know where they will be going with it.

What are you reading this summer? Any must reads that I need to download before I head out on vacation #2???

So it's been a year....

Since this little blog got her start!!!!! 50 some posts later, here we are. It's actually a year and a week, this summer is flying by before my very eyes!

I'm not sure what I was expecting from this blog, immediate online friends? Posting everyday? Becoming an eloquent writer?

None of these have happened. A few people have stumbled their way over here (hello out there!!!), a few people have commented, and I've found a few of their blogs too! Having a blog is a lot tougher than I thought it would be. I think about my blog on a pretty regular occassion, but actually logging on an putting up a post is a lot more work than I thought it would be! I have a regular 4 or 5 post ideas floating around my head, but putting them in writing hasn't quite happened. Maybe I just need to start a bunch of posts when I think about them and then finish them up and post when I have time?

I think goals for this coming year with the blog include posting more, and preparing for posts much more. So often I cook an awesome meal or husband and I do something super fun, but I forget to take pictures, and who wants to read post after post with no pictures?

So, how did you find your way into blogging? And do you have any secrets for regular posting quality stuff?

And here are some gratuitous pictures of the pups enjoying a day at the pool
