I'll Be Home For Christmas...

I hope that everyone had a fantastic and relaxing Thanksgiving! With one holiday down I can now focus on Christmas. I missed seeing my Mom, sister and her family at Thanksgiving this year. My oldest nephew is four and honestly says the darndest things, I missed a couple good ones from the recaps I've heard.

I'm beyond thrilled for Christmas this year. In the past Tony and I have pretty much ignored the holiday season altogether except for the shopping we do for family. This year, after helping my mom assemble her tree and bring out all the ornaments, I decided that we are a family now and thus need a tree. Families should have a tree, right? So we went out to Lowe's thinking we'd come home with a tabletop tree and ended up lugging out a box with a 6 1/2 foot, pre-lit, beauty. I had gathered some ornaments from my childhood from my mom and started throwing those babies on the tree. We quickly realized my couple dozen ornaments weren't going to cut it. We have to go out to search for some good ornaments and a tree topper. But we can't just have a tree, right?? More decor will definitely be required.

note the huge gaping hole I didn't notice until uploading this pic.
I will be fixing that as soon as I walk in the door tonight...

I found some adorable stockings for the mister, pups, and I on etsy but everytime I go back to her shop more of my favorites have disappeared!!! I think I need to remember that I don't have to get everything this year. It takes couples years to have a fully stocked Christmas arsenal. Maybe the tree is our big purchase this year.

So besides being able to now blast the Christmas music 24x7 without shame, how are you getting into the Christmas spirit after Thanksgiving?

Happy Friday!

It's been a busy week at work, we are winding down our quarter and competing with the upcoming holiday season for attention from our customers. Somehow their sense of urgency for work related items is trumped by planning family gatherings next week.

Tonight I will unwind with a glass of wine at one of my favorite vineyards, Doukenie, with my mom. They are having a private release of a new wine, so we will be there for the tasting and first purchase of the bottles.

Tomorrow night is our first company holiday party of the season. We will be dressing up for a night on the town!!!

Hopefully on Sunday we can make some progress on tidying up and maybe tackle painting the kitchen. With less than one full wall's worth of space to cover, it should go pretty quickly. I almost have enough paint in the sample can alone.

Here is an image I saw earlier this week and have been daydreaming of the perfect wallpaper that I would feature in my make believe next house (It will go perfectly behind my make believe super chic cafe table in my make believe kitchen):

This is a lovely image found on Design Evolution. I love the splash of color on a solid wall. Gets print on your wall without having to remove wallpaper down the road. Perfect.

What are you up to this weekend?

Online Friends

I have a bunch of blogs that I keep up with via Google Reader. I get weekly (sometimes daily) updates on people's lives and thoughts they share with the internet world. I often find myself thinking about posts I had read and wondering what they girls are up to. One girl has been sharing her desire to get pregnant, I think about her and hope that she and her husband can fulfill that dream. I follow along as newlyweds renovate their house, celebrate anniversaries, and spend their date nights. I pass these ideas onto my dear husband and we put our own twist on things.

As of right now, I rarely comment on blogs, so my friendships with these girls are one sided. I guess that makes me a "lurker" on their blogs. Last night I had a dream that I was the best of friends with one of the bloggers that I follow. She came to work at my job and we immediately hit it off. Weird to dream about someone I've never met but know so much about??

Are there any lurkers out there reading this? I have yet to receive any comments and I would love to know who's out there reading!

Election Day 2009

Don't forget to vote! It's a big election in Virginia with a heated Gubernatorial race and many House of Delegate seats up for grabs. Make sure you stop by your local polling location to cast your ballot.

Happy Belated Birthday Wilbur!!!

Wilbur turned three yesterday
This means that he will be older than me next year in dog years
He has truly blessed our lives and made each day better since his arrival
We couldn't have asked for a better dog

Our first time meeting the champ

All bundled up for a trek in the snow
